Meet our New General Manager of the Tohono O’odham Utility Authority
The Tohono O’odham Utility Board of Directors is pleased to announce Ms. Kristan Johnson as the new General Manager to oversee operations of the Tohono O’odham Utility Authority (TOUA). TOUA was created 55 years ago by the Tohono O’odham Nation, making it one of the first tribal nations to provide utility services to its citizens. Located in southern Arizona, the Nation’s land base spans 2.8 million acres and shares 65 miles of the international border with Mexico.
From modest beginnings, TOUA has grown to provide electric, water/wastewater, propane, telephone/cellular, and Internet services to its customers. We are proud that 95 percent of TOUA employees, including Ms. Johnson, are citizens of the Tohono O’odham Nation. Ms. Johnson previously served as TOUA’s Telephone Operations Manager, where she was instrumental in building the fiber network throughout the Nation by successfully obtaining competitive grant funding for these projects. In her new role, she will oversee all operations provided by TOUA. With her extensive experience, Ms. Johnson is dedicated to growth within the utility industry and committed to educating and enriching our employees, customers, and stakeholders.
