TOUA’S Washington Youth Tour 2020 Contest is Underway!
The Tohono O’odham Utility Authority is inviting all high school Juniors to enter the Washington Youth Tour essay contest for an opportunity to visit Washington DC in June of 2020. You may be selected to represent TOUA in the Grand Canyon State Electric Cooperative Association’s Washington Youth Tour. The students will enjoy a week-long stay in the Nation’s Capital with visits to famous sites and the opportunity to meet their peers in planned student activities. The 2020 Tour will include students from the State of Arizona, as well as students representing rural cooperatives across · the country.
The students will be required to submit an essay speaking to the topic of this year’s contest. The essay is of 500 – 700 words long. The basic requirement is that your parents or guardians are customers of TOUA. The essays will be scored and the top contenders will then be interviewed by a panel of judges. Winners will be announced on Friday, December 20, 2019.
The trip is scheduled for June 11-18, 2020. This is a great chance to experience Washington, D.C. next summer!
This past summer six students participated in the 2019 Washington Youth Tour: Mazey Ortega, Jesus Salcido and Sophia Stevens of Tohono O’odham High School and Amanda Garcia, Shavon Listo and Erica Moristo representing Baboquivari High School.
